Lura

Lura is one of the Cape Verdean voices of the moment. In the slipstream of the great Cesaria Evora, a whole new generation of singers appeared. A generation that loves life, and a whole spectrum of musical styles, and Lura embodies this perfectly. Born in Lisbon in 1975, she started out as a backing singer in zouk singer Juka’s group. When Lura goes solo she continues to perform zouk music.

Her debut album Nha Vida opens some doors, and a few years later, when she duets with Bonga, she gets noticed by the director of the label Lusafrica, José da Silva. Lura records a second zouk album, and sings backing vocals on Cesaria Evora’s albums São Vicente di longe and Voz de amor. She takes centre stage with the release of Di Korpu Ku Alma. On this record, she discovers the styles and rhythms of her country – morna and batuque. Lura is at the beginning of a new career which touches the Lusophone world and beyond.
